Partners in Decision Making: Parents Tell Us How
Over 200 parents of children with disabilities met between February and May of this year in focus groups to answer the question: "What has to happen for your voice to be heard when decisions are made about your child's (and other children's) education?"
Partners in Decision Making: Parents Tell Us How contains their answers and observations. This report captures their heartfelt and thoughtful ideas and recommendations to improve the interaction between schools and families.
Whether you are a parent, a CAC member, a SELPA director, an administrator, a teacher, or an interested community member, we hope you will find ways to put the parents findings and recommendations to work.
All of us involved in this process encourage you to look at this document as a reality-based resource that can help you build partnerships in your school, district, or region.
The parents have shared their vision of an educational system that encourages, supports, and protects equal access to decision making for all parents of children with disabilities.
It is their hope that their vision will inspire every key stakeholder in Californias education system to seriously review and consider the recommendations in this report.
