California Department of Education, Special Education Division’s special project, California Services for Technical Assistance and Training (CalSTAT) is funded through a contract with the Napa County Office of Education. The Effective Reading Interventions Academy (ERIA) delivers training and ongoing coaching to school site teams of teachers and administrators, helping schools to improve literacy outcomes for their middle and high school students. Visit ERIA’s homepage on the CalSTAT website.
CalSTAT’s funding SPDG Grant, specifically allocates dollars each year to provide oversight and administration of a program that directly funds parents. CalSTAT, through a subcontract with the California Association of Family Empowerment Centers (CAFEC), financially supports families to participate in local, regional, or statewide decision making committees and groups. Since July 1, 2011, the FPF has been administered by WestEd Center for Prevention and Early Intervention (CPEI).
The ERIA Implementation Rubric is a companion document to the Program Guide, which operationalizes the ERIA practices. The rubric uses a five-point scale with explicit descriptions of each level, and level 5 is aligned with full implementation of RtI2. Outlining 10 key areas of implementation, the rubric is a usable and comprehensive instrument. A version in Excel is also available with automated charting and reporting functions over multiple years.
CalSTAT manages the RiSE (Resources in Special Education) Library, which makes available documents that offer research-proven strategies and information recommended by educational stakeholders. Residents of California can check out these resources free of charge by ordering through phone, email, U.S. mail, and fax, or by visiting the library in person.
