State Leadership Institute
About the State Leadership Institute
The goal of the State Leadership Institute is to support the development of collaborative systems involving general and special educators and families in implementing effective, research-based educational programs and strategies.
The institute began in 1999 and built a learning community of approximately 700 participants by 2004. Institute participants included individual stakeholders from the field of special and general education and school site teams. The institute has been offered as a year-long experience that includes a three-day statewide face-to-face meeting and 4 weeks of online wrap-around conferencing in addition to year-round special conferencing.
In 2002, CalSTAT expanded its efforts to grow the institute learning community by supporting regionally-based institutes at the local level, making available both financial and administrative support to those entities who demonstrate capacity to deliver an institute. These contractors are called regional institute host sites and provide one or more institutes within their local area per year.
In 2008, Institute participants will be limited to regional institute host site teams and CalSTAT Leadership site teams who are involved in collaborative change efforts. Through the institute, these training and technical assistance providers come together with other site teams comprised of educators and family leaders to share learning, develop skills, and plan for action. Institute participants form a learning community that remains connected over time though the use of a variety of communication and information-sharing strategies.
The Community Network Space is a password protected site that enables the CalSTAT State Leadership institute participants a place to network and share their work.
