Data: Ranchero Middle School
In an effort to meet the needs of every student, Ranchero Middle School utilizes assessment procedures to maintain high standards and monitor student progress consistently through various assessment strategies. RMS responds to students and their needs through initial school wide direct instruction, small group instruction, and cooperative learning. RMS uses common assessments such as informal and formal classroom tests, Kaplan strategies, and district benchmarks, which are formulated through curriculum calibration committees and are aligned to the state standards.
Immediate response to students who are performing below grade level standards are accomplished through re-teaching in the classroom utilizing the assistance and guidance of bilingual and special education assistants, the after-school CLINIC program (where students are re taught and tutored for mastery for an hour after school four times per week), and the fluidity in the ExCEL model.
Parents are involved in their child's learning by reviewing the school's Web grade system, binder reminder communication, parent/teacher/student conferences with counselors and administrators, as well as weekly and quarterly progress reports and semester report cards.
RMS has increased its API score each year, with 37 points in 2005, the highest growth in the Hesperia Unified School District and the first secondary school to reach 700 or above with an API score of 704.
Our 2006 data indicated we needed to specifically direct our focus on targeted areas to show continued improvement in maximizing student achievements.
