The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) Program consist of three types of programs.

  1. Juvenile Court Schools
  2. County Community Schools
  3. Community Day Schools

East Mesa School is one of the Juvenile Court Schools.  It is located within the East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility.  JCCS is a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited school that provides students with Standards-Based Instruction for 245 day a year.  JCCS student demographics are fifty-two percent Latino, nineteen percent Black, twenty-four percent White, Two percent Asian, One percent Filipino, one percent Pacific Islanders and one percent Native American.

The staff is composed of highly qualified general and special education teachers.   Each classroom has a twenty to one student-teacher ratio with additional support from a teacher assistant.

There are approximately seventy special education students, which represent thirty percent of the total population.  Students receive services through the Resource Specialist Program (RSP) and Special Day Class (SDC) program. Forty-five percent of the students are RSP and fifty-five percent are SDC.  Thirty percent of the students are identified as having an Emotional Disturbance, sixty-five percent as Specific Learning Disability and five percent include Other Health Impairment, Autism, Mentally Retardation or Traumatic Brain Injury.
