Data: Elk Grove Unified School District

Student progress is constantly monitored utilizing curriculum-based measurements, and is conducted through class-wide screenings, as well as in small group and individual settings. The results of these screenings, along with information related to student achievement of academic standards, constitute an effective progress monitoring process. This information is reviewed a minimum of three times a year in the CAST conference, and more frequently if needed. The specific information collected is related to the identified needs of the students and the site; some sites focus their attention on language arts, while others focus on language arts and math. Overall, student progress, as measured by standardized scores, has improved a great deal. Additionally, our rate of identification for eligibility for special education has decreased from 16% to approximately 9%, during the time our district has grown dramatically. Another data point is related to initial psychoeducational assessments for special education, which has also decreased substantially.
