At Irvine High School, we have an academic/behavior support team that consists of the Principal, three Vice-Principals, teachers, certificated staff, counselors, and the School Psychologist.   The team meets weekly for data based decision-making on school-wide academic and behavior needs.

At Irvine High School, “Effective Behavior Support” is embedded in all three of our WASC action plan goals:  Remediation of non-proficient students; Advisement Program; and Critical Thinking.  We use academic and behavioral data to determine the needs of our non-proficient students and review research validated practices for intervention.   The Advisement Program is being strengthened with the teaching of the school-wide expected behaviors:  Integrity, Honor Self and Others, and Social Responsibility.  Advisement is also used as the communication vehicle with the student body at large.  The teaching of expected school-wide behaviors across environments, data-based decision making, monitoring of progress, and school-wide reinforcers are elements of our critical thinking action plans.

There is a team at Irvine High School that meets weekly to review school-wide data (attendance, detentions, transcripts, progress reports, credit risk reports, reports from outside agencies such as the Police Department, SST minutes, and standardized assessments) in order to plan prevention strategies and support activities for all students.  The special education students at Irvine High School are fully mainstreamed for academics and elective choices.  Less than 1% of our special education population participates in academic self-contained classes.  The team follows the guidelines of the school-wide discipline process.
