CalSTAT Califormnia Services for Technical Assistance and Training - Learning Center

Overview: Marine View Middle School

Literacy is a school wide project involving all teachers, students, administrators and parents. Beginning 9 years ago, Marine View began our commitment to blended services and meeting the unique needs of all students, regardless of label. Our intervention network is designed to eliminate the literacy gap to ensure all students are at the proficient or advanced level by 2014 (NCLB).

The frame for intervention programs begins with block scheduling and a master schedule that ensures placement opportunities for students based upon need. Students enrolled in intensive intervention classes such as Language! or High Point receive 114 minutes per day or 186 minutes over two days of intense instruction. Number of minutes is determined by need.

Additional interventions include: Six-Minute Solution, REWARDS, REWARDS Plus, Read Naturally, Skills for School Success, and Math Essentials. Using research-based instruction and school wide systems to monitor student progress, teachers are able to effectively match students’ needs to program options.
