Partners: Marine View Middle School

Communication with parents provides the basic foundation for keeping a focus on academic achievement. Parents are invited and encouraged to be involved in Back to School Night, Open House, School Site Council, PTSA, Parent Education supported by PTSA, as classroom volunteers, and as an active participant at Marine View activities. All parents are expected to attend two student-led parent conferences per year. Parents receive three progress reports and three report cards annually in addition to bi-monthly progress checks.

Traditionally, Marine View enjoys strong support from parents in all aspects of the school including athletics, performing arts, and academics. This school year parent volunteers put together 20 Six Minute Solution kits for sixth and seventh grade ELA classes as well as provided over $3000 for leveled books for the library.

As an evaluation tool for teachers and administrators, each May parents and students are invited to participate in a Program Evaluation Forum hosted by School Site Council. The forum gives parents and students an opportunity to reflect on the school year and to provide feedback, recommendations and commendations for the next school year.

Accomplishments: Success is both quantitative and qualitative. We have anecdotal data from parents and former students that affirms success of students in academics in high school and beyond as a result of our intervention systems. Quantitative data clearly shows the positive results of both in-school and extended day interventions.

Assessment Data can be viewed online at www.ovsd.org then link to the School Accountability Report Card.
