Instructional
Strategies:
Research-proven instructional practices
include: Active Participation model, Vocabulary Development model, fluency
instruction, and note taking instruction. Instructional practices are
based upon research by Dr. Kevin Feldman, Dr. Anita Archer and Dr. Robert
Marzano.
Organizational
strategies:
1) Identify struggling readers, 2) Structure
literacy classes around the identified needs of the readers, and 3)
Utilize research-based curriculum to accelerate learning.
Conceptual:
Middle school students require explicit, research-proven
instruction to accelerate learning to ensure all students are proficient
or above in ELA. Disaggregated data provided by Data Works is
analyzed to determine students needing intensive or strategic interventions.
Administrators review individual results to formulate a
list of students scoring Below Basic on the CST in English/Language
Arts. The Master Schedule is built around identified
student needs. Regular parent conferences, student monitoring
system, and teacher responsibility for delivery of research-proven programs
ensures multiple ways to accelerate learning for students. Teachers,
parents, and administrators provide encouragement and monitoring.
