Mesa View is a diverse middle school serving students in grades 6-8. Of our 745 students, 26% receive free/reduced-priced lunch, 10% are English Learners, 33% are Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students, and 11% are identified as special education students. We host the district GATE magnet program and a shared Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) program for the severely emotionally disturbed. Three years ago, we began to implement  a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) model. As a school that has been recognized at the state and local levels for effective implementation of Response to Instruction/Intervention (RtI2), the next logical step in our RtI2 journey was to develop the behavioral components of our intervention pyramid.
