Partners: Mesa View Middle School
The organizational structure of our site and community supports our goal of implementing an RtI model to meet the literacy needs of all students. All stakeholders (students, parents, educators and culturally representative community members) are involved in creating the direction of our school program. Each year advisory committees (SSC, ELAC, PTSO, Principal's Advisory Committee, and Student Council) review disaggregated STAR data and develop goals for the Single School Plan. Articulation with the teachers of our feeder schools occur annually through articulation meetings. In addition, OSVD 5th grade teachers, give our school the assessment profiles on each incoming 6th grade student.
Parent communication and partnership is a critical element of any school program. Back to School Night and Open House are very well attended at Mesa View. Parent-student-teacher conferences are held twice a year for each student where each parent reviews the student's STAR and if applicable, CELDT testing results and current class performance (grades). Progress reports are distributed as are trimester reports, three times a year. In addition to a homework hotline and teacher websites, each student carries a Student Planner which is a tool not only for students, but for parents as well to monitor assignments. Other communication with parents occurs through an automated phone system, newspaper articles and newsletters. Through our PTSO volunteers, parents provide support to our literacy program, by listening and timing student fluency reads.
