The success of our 3-tier model of behavioral interventions and supports (Walker, H., Horner, R. H., Sugai, G., Bullis, M. Sprague, J. R. Bricker, D., & Kaufman, M.J. 1996) largely rests on the implementation of the foundational school wide expectations. The 3Rs are taught explicitly with common language and experience to ensure a common understanding of the expectations (Surgeon General’s Report on Youth Violence, 2001). Common lessons are also created for booster lessons throughout the year. These lessons utilize active participation strategies by all teachers.
The PBIS site team is comprised of general and special education teachers. Organizationally, the team is integrated with the school Leadership Team, School Site Council and Grade Level Teams, as PBIS is valued as an intricate component of the school wide program, not a parallel system. PBIS is a standing topic on leadership and staff meeting agendas.
