Overview: Paradise Unified School District
As PUSD began the process developing a collaborative model of service delivery, each elementary site was given the opportunity to develop a model that best fit the staff, students and culture of their school. They were directed to use principles from the research of Slavin and Madden.
Schools developed a collaborative model incorporating classroom teachers, special educators and specialists. Sites depend on on-going student assessment data to drive instructional decisions. Academic interventions are provided in classrooms, learning labs and through team teaching within regular education classrooms. There is a commitment to site collaboration between educators and parents on how to best accelerate student achievement with an efficient and flexible approach based on student assessment, monitoring of student learning in response to academic interventions, and the commitment that working collaboratively will result in positive student outcomes. Through regularly scheduled team meetings, that include classroom teachers and academic support, student progress is reviewed and teams react quickly to student’s needs.
