Data: Rincon Middle School
At Rincon Middle School we use several procedures to assess student progress and thus maintain high standards. Students are assessed daily in their general education classes by both their general education teachers and special education teachers through observation of class work, interaction with peers and adults, and using formative and summative assessment. All general education classes are aligned to state standards, which are posted in each classroom. Each special education student participates in the district-wide benchmark assessments for the different academic areas and the statewide assessments in the spring of each year.

Special education students have goals and objectives written for them individually by the Individual Education Plan team at their Individual Education Plan meetings. The Individual Education Plan team consists of the student, the student’s parents, the special education teacher, and several of the general education teachers for this student. These goals and objectives are evaluated each trimester with results mailed to parents. Each of the students receives grade sheet printouts periodically and final grades on a report card from each of their teachers.
