Overview: Rincon Middle School
The principal heads the administrative team consisting of 2 assistant principals. Each assistant principal is responsible for one grade level, rotating with the students as they move up the grades. Our site has two counselors and a full-time psychologist. Rincon employs 67 teachers. The special education staff consists of five specific academic instruction teachers, one deaf and hard-of-hearing teacher, two SH (severely handicapped) teachers, two speech/language therapists, and one adaptive physical education teacher (four periods daily). There are nine paraprofessionals supporting the special education students.
We are now in our 7th year of inclusion of special education students. In 1992, Villa and Thousand offered a four-phase model for values based change that integrated the well know writings of Fullan (1982), Sclechty (1990), and Segiovanni (1990). We are again, working through the stages of Visioning, Introducing, Expanding, and Selectively Maintaining the Change and the Change Process as we begin another phase of our inclusion model, with academic achievement of our students as the top priority.
