Data: San Juan USD - Transition Program

Job coaches informally observe and evaluate the job performance of WorkAbility students on an ongoing basis. Working students periodically receive a written Performance Evaluation. The skills addressed in the Performance Evaluation are tied to the model Career-Technical standards. For students with significant disabilities who receive a sub-minimum wage, job coaches perform periodic Productivity Studies to determine increases in Productivity. Students participating in student-run businesses are evaluated using the SCANS, work-ready criteria developed by the U.S. Department of Labor. Students participating in individual entrepreneurship are evaluated based on achievement of the relevant Economics content standards. When a student experiences difficulty on the job, a job coach intervenes immediately to help the student address the problem and improve job performance. All assessment results are shared with parents at IEP meetings and used in preparing and updating individualized transition plans. The program's annual goals include serving 968 students with employment-related services and placing 237 students in paid work. Our average rate of compliance is 100%. The transition staff conducts follow-up studies of transition students for the two years after they leave high school. The data shows that, of those "follow-up" students we are able to reach, approximately 40% are working, which is significantly higher than the average for people with disabilities.
