Overview: Sequoia Middle School
Sequoia Middle School's project is to provide all students with a quality, standards-based curriculum, providing student accommodations as needed in a total push-in collaborative model. The concept of providing the least restrictive environment for the educational services of our Special Ed students is the primary bases for our collaborative model.
Conferences are held with parents and teachers to determine if placement in an intervention or collaborative class is appropriate. Articulation with 5th grade teachers from the incoming schools determines early identification for placement. Lastly scores from standardized tests are used to identify others in need of the collaborative classes.
All teachers participate in professional development centered around collaboration and intervention strategies throughout the year. Monthly grade level meetings and staff development days are used for training and collaborative staff efforts. Our master schedule has been modified to place priority on collaborative and intervention classes, both for the ease of placement and possible changes required. Opportunities are provided for teachers to meet and collaborate including a weekly all-staff common prep period.
