Partners: Sequoia Middle School
As the middle school magnet school for our district, our students and families come from all parts of the district. The district's two magnet elementary schools are our main feeder elementary schools. The 5th grade teachers meet with our 6th grade teachers for articulation and placement of incoming students in our collaborative classes.
Parents are integral members of our team in determining proper placement for their students. Presentations to and input from our Parent Faculty Club, Student council, and School Site Council members are components of our program. All three have supported our project providing funding for materials and professional development beyond the school budget. At the district level, our site takes part in the annual Leadership Institute and is coordinating a Middle School conference for the 2008-09 school year. Incoming 6th grade parents are informed of the project at Camp Sequoia orientation and through individual parent conferences. Our students attend all six of our district's high schools, necessitating articulation with all of them for proper placement of our students in 9th grade.
The School Site Plan for Student Achievement supports our collaborative model providing for teacher release time and registration fees to various programs. Monthly grade level meetings and staff development days are used for training and development of common assessments.
