Data: Vista View Middle School
Assessment drives the instructional program at Vista View, and systematic procedures are in place to identify student needs and closely monitor student progress and program efficacy.
Teachers are released each trimester to analyze assessment data, review student progress and program placement, and plan instruction that is aligned with state-adopted pacing guides. Teachers also monitor progress on a daily basis through active participation strategies, checking for understanding activities, and informal assessments.
Student progress is also measured using an array of formal assessments, including curriculum–embedded diagnostic and benchmark assessments, the Scholastic Reading Inventory, the San Diego Quick, Read Naturally Reading Fluency Monitor, and district writing prompts, which are administered each trimester to measure student growth. The progress of intensive level learners is monitored using an assessment rubric.
Program success at Vista View is evidenced by a 62–point growth in our state API score over the past 4 years and our AYP proficiency percentages in reading/language arts and math.
