Background:
Serves adults ages: 18-22
The Transition to Adult Living program serves students 18-22 years old from the Washington Unified School District who continue to be eligible to receive a free, appropriate public education. The goal of the program is to promote independence and self-determination through training and experiences in employment, daily living activities, travel training and recreation and leisure activities. The program operates out of a rented house in the community where the students learn how to manage a home and live independently . Students are placed in various work settings where they gain employment skills and all travel is conducted on public transportation to learn how to travel independently. Each student leaves the program at age 22 with a plan in place for the next phase of their life.
