Listservs

One way to keep in touch with a work team or an extended community is through the use of an email listserv. A listserv is an email message sent to a group of people specified as a recipient of your message. There are two main types of listservs available to institute participants:

  • Broadcast listserv

Use this type of listserv to send a regular message to a group of people. Responses are sent to the person who originated the message.

  • Discussion listserv

An email message is sent to a group of people. Responses would be sent to everyone on the list. While less organized than a conference, a discussion listserv can help a group of people share ideas with each other.

If you are interested in creating a listserv, contact her by email: rebecka.anderson@calstat.org and provide her with the following:

  • The purpose of the conference
  • The approximate number of participants
  • The approximate duration
  • Your name, telephone, and email address

Rebecka will discuss with you which listserv option would best meet your workgroup's needs. You will be asked to provide a short paragraph that describes the purpose of the list and a set of email addresses for initial members of the list. As the person organizing the list, you will be specified as the "owner" of the list, and you will be provided with directions on how to manage the list. Rebecka will provide you with assistance in managing the list.
