Reading the Chart

The chart shows CST ELA scores for California students at the 4th, 7th, and 10th grade levels. In the chart, there are two bars showing the levels of proficiency at each designated grade level.

Each color within the bars describes the percent of students within the subgroup at that proficiency level, indicated in the key to the left of the chart. Black numbers above each bar describes the total percent of students proficient and above, while the red numbers below describe the total percent of students less than proficient.

This chart displays proficiency levels from 2010 only. Charts describing earlier years are available online at http:// www.calstat.org/CSTProficiencyCharting.htm

When comparing 2010 scores with 2009, there were moderate increases for both all students and students with disabilities. These increases were smaller than the approximately 11-point increase in AYP targets.
