CalSTAT Technical Assistance and Training

California Department of Education, Special Education Division’s special project, California Services for Technical Assistance and Training (CalSTAT) is funded through a contract with the Napa County Office of Education. CalSTAT is partially funded from federal funds, State Grants #H027A080116A. Additional federal funds are provided from a federal competitively awarded State Personnel Development Grant to California (#H323A070011) provided from the U.S. Department of Education Part D of the Individuals with Disabilities Education act (IDEA). Why Waiters is a self-supporting, community-based instruction program designed for students who are deaf and hard of hearing and students with multiple disabilities in grades 4–6. The program is a shopping service for staff members. The proceeds support a wide range of community activities designed to enhance the individual growth and independence of all students.

Child Find RtI is a screening program for preschool children residing within Santa Ana District’s boundaries. The program provides screening and interventions to families in the family’s home language and incorporates current research practices for working with children who are at risk children because of their linguistic, cultural and socio-economic status.

This program serves students with significant disabilities from grades K to 12 in five classrooms located on three campuses.

RtI Cubed is a K–5 program that uses an explicit set of practices to meet the needs of every student, targeting those who are struggling academically, socially, or emotionally, as well as also those meeting or exceeding state standards and local benchmarks. These practices include ongoing investigations into student progress, standards-based instruction, staff collaboration to increase instructional opportunity, and intensity for challenged students.

CHIME provides model education programs for family, school, and community-centered environments, with focus on full inclusion of students with disabilities. CHIME’s successful instructional models include co-teaching, collaborative related services, daily debriefings, school wide positive behavior supports, and family partnerships. The CHIME program also works with local universities to provide opportunities for professional development and research.

Camp Paivika, an outdoor educational experience, is an adult transition program for special education students ages 14–22. This program includes a three-day camping program with educational activities that include science experiments, arts, cooking, and recreation.

Collaborative Inclusion is a full inclusion elementary classroom program that provides both general education and special education students with rigorous curriculum and individualized instructional. The program is designed to create a greater understanding and appreciation of diversity through integrated classrooms.
